"Stand
By Your Beds” hoping to Raise £50,000 for the Phyllis
Tuckwell Hospice
Stand by your Beds, a
brand new musical is being premiered in January to raise much needed
funds for the Farnham based Hospice, Phyllis Tuckwell. Written and
produced by an operating theatre nurse from Frimley Park Hospital,
it tells the story of the lives and loves of a General Hospitals
staff in the 1950’s as they face the mounting bureaucracy
of the NHS. This new Rock & Roll show (Grease meets Carry on
Nursing) has its world premiere in the Princes Hall in Aldershot
in January. Production costs have been raised by various events
and very generous donations by the Doctors and Nurses at Frimley
Park so come January, every penny from ticket sales will go to the
Hospice, hopefully raising over £50,000.
Sadly, in April 2006
the Hospice had to close four of its 18 beds as the result of a
significant drop in legacy income and general donations. An appeal
was launched to raise awareness of their need for support and as
a result two of the four beds have now been reopened. If the money
raised by “Stand By Your Beds” can help in any way to
open another bed, then this could make a massive difference to local
families at a very sad time in their lives.
The “Stand By Your
Beds” team have been hard at work, running marathons dressed
as nurses, opening local fares and fetes and doing car boot sales
to raise both funds and awareness. While performing at a summer
fare in Dunsfold, they were lucky enough to enlist the support of
London theatre impresario Sir Trevor Nunn and his wife , actress
Imogen Stubbs, who is now the proud owner of a “Stand by your
Beds” T shirt (see Photo)
All of the performers,
musicians and production team are donating their considerable time
and talent to this project for free, helping to maximise the funds
available to the Hospice and we are extremely grateful to all of
them for their help and support.
Tickets are now on sale
and are going like the proverbial “Hot Cakes”
Some seats on Friday and Saturday nights are already sold out and
the team are now looking for local businesses to sponsor the show
or advertise in the programme.
